Smoking Celebrations

Yesterday we had some very talented and wonderful indigenous Australians out to the campus to do a dance and a smoking ceremony as part of Naidoc week. The smoking cleans the place of bad spirits or energy. Uncle Max performed the ceremony, cleaned the college and smoked me and I must admit I felt instantly better.(It had been a stressful morning) The dancers were from the Descendance dance group and they got everyone up and shaking their stuff including the College Director and I. Then there was a great feed of kangeroo, emu and croc which was needed after all the dancing. Must get some more of that emu as I had never tried it and it was rather tasty. I took a bunch of shots on our new digital camera and it made me realise I should read the manuals. Here are some of the better shots for you to enjoy.
